MidAtlanticBroadband Achieves CLEC Status

Fredericksburg, Virginia -- May 28, 2002 -- MidAtlanticBroadband, a rapidly growing, facilities-based, integrated service provider, announced today that it has completed the certification process to become a competitive local exchange carrier, or CLEC in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

"Becoming a CLEC affords us with new growth opportunities, which we can leverage in our Virginia markets,7quot; commented Willie Vereen, president and CEO of MidAtlanticBroadband.  "More importantly, our CLEC status will provide us with a competitive edge in the evolving Virginia telecommunications market.  Achieving CLEC status in Virginia is a critical step in the company transition from a local Internet Service Provider (ISP) to a facilities-based provider of high-speed services."

Michael Pitts, Chief Operating Officer of MidAtlanticBroadband, added:  "The telecommunications boom of 1997 to 2001 encouraged many companies to become CLECs.  Our strategy has been quite different from the masses.  Rather then spending massive amounts of capital on network facilities in first and second tier markets, and pursuing fast wealth, our goal is to build our networks in third and fourth tier markets that are currently underserved.  We are pursuing steady growth providing high-speed services to customers that have few service options."
